1. Read chapter 1 in the American Pageant and complete the study guide for the chapter. Study guides can be accessed at https://jstedman.tripod.com/APUS/index.html under the link for 1st quarter assignments. Study guide vocabulary is completed by studying, through three different activities, the definitions posted in the Quizlet class database located at: https://quizlet.com/class/6905185/. To access the class site, you will need to create an account and join the class. You must use a user name that I will recognize! There will be quiz on this chapter on the first day of class.
2. Read The
First Americans (all 6 links) at Digital History (Mintz and
McNeil, 2013). Use this information to gather basic facts about
the pre-Columbian tribes of North America. Create a pictorial,
annotated map that illustrates the differences between the major
tribes of the northwest, southwest, southeast, Eastern Woodlands,
and Mississippian regions. For each region, an illustration /
description of all of the following should be included: societal
structure, economic / agricultural systems, political system,
structures that represent innovative technology, and religious
beliefs. You will need to conduct additional research to
complete this map; use the information from the Digital History
chapter to guide you in your research as you seek to more fully
understand these pre-Columbian societies. Research resources
must come from reliable sources (please e-mail me if you
have questions regarding the reliability of a source; Wikipedia is
off limits) and must include a work cited sheet in APA
format. Click here for the grading rubric.
